Privacy policy

Last updated: 12 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Pixelsleuth handles and why. "We" means Choodle Ltd, trading as Pixelsleuth (company no. 17506918, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom). We are the data controller for the data described below. Contact us at support+pixelsleuth@orderhue.com.

The short version

What the extension handles on your device

Pixelsleuth has no access to any website until you open it on a tab, from the toolbar or with one of its keyboard shortcuts. It then reads that tab's page as your browser has already displayed it (fonts, colours, styles and element sizes) to show you its readouts. Closing the inspector, or leaving the page, discards everything it read.

What it readsThe page in the tab where you opened Pixelsleuth: its rendered fonts, colours, styles and layout, and the pixel colours you choose with the eyedropper.
What it keepsThe colours you pick with the eyedropper, as colour values only (never the page or site they came from), at most your last 50. Your licence details if you activate Pro (see Licence checks). Both are in your browser's own extension storage, on your device only.
WhyTo show you a page's fonts, colours and CSS, the extension's single purpose, and to keep your recent picks.
Who receives itNobody. None of it is sent to us, to Freemius or to anyone else.
How longPage readouts: until you close the inspector. Picked colours: until you clear them in Options or uninstall the extension, which deletes everything it stored. Exports you copy are on your clipboard, under your control.

Because this data never leaves your device, we can't access, correct or delete it for you. Use the controls in Options instead.

Licence checks (Pro)

When you activate a Pro licence, the extension contacts Freemius (api.freemius.com), our licensing provider. It sends:

Freemius replies with an install number. The extension then checks the licence about once a week, sending the licence key, the random install ID and that install number. It sends the same when you deactivate. Like any internet request, these reveal your IP address to Freemius. Nothing about the pages you inspect, your picked colours, your browsing or your device is sent. Free users make no licence requests.

WhyTo confirm your Pro licence and turn Pro features on or off.
Lawful basisContract (to provide the Pro features you bought).
Kept forFreemius keeps activation records while your licence is active, then under its own retention rules.
ProcessorFreemius (licensing and merchant of record).

When you buy Pixelsleuth Pro

Pro is sold by Freemius, our reseller and merchant of record. Freemius collects your payment and billing details, handles VAT and sends your receipt. It acts as an independent controller for that data under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card details.

If you type your email address at checkout but don't finish buying, Freemius may send you up to three reminder emails about that order. The checkout tells you this and has a "No thanks" link that stops them, and each email has an unsubscribe link. We don't use that address for anything else.

What Freemius shares with usYour name, email address, country, the plan you bought, your licence key and its activation records (install number, the fixed install name, activation and check dates).
WhyTo deliver Pro, check your licence, send renewal and receipt emails and give support.
Lawful basisContract (to provide what you bought). After your licence ends, legal obligation (we must keep sales records for tax and company law).
Kept forWhile your licence is active, plus 6 years for tax and accounting records.

When you email support

WhatYour name and email address, the content of your messages and anything you attach, such as a screenshot. Please don't send screenshots of private pages unless you need to.
WhyTo answer your question and keep a record of the conversation.
Lawful basisLegitimate interests (answering the people who contact us).
Kept for24 months after the conversation ends, then deleted.
Service providersCloudflare (receives and forwards email sent to our address), Resend (stores and sends our support email; EU region) and Anthropic (the AI service behind our support assistant, which reads your message and drafts and sends replies).

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also email Pro customers. If the extension ever needs to keep or send a new kind of data, we'll update this policy and the store listings before that version is released.
